As we reflect on National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we’re reminded of the people whose talent, heart, and purpose bring inclusion to life every day.
At Galt, inclusion isn’t limited to one month. It’s the foundation of everything we do and the driving force behind making meaningful work accessible to everyone.
This reflection highlights some of the many associates who embody that mission — individuals whose dedication and growth remind us why inclusion matters year-round.
A Deeper Look at NDEAM
National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) has been celebrated for nearly eighty years. It began in 1945, when Congress designated the first week of October as National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week, a way to honor veterans with disabilities returning from World War II. By 1962, the word “physically” was dropped, recognizing that all types of disabilities deserve equal opportunity.
In 1988, the observance expanded to a month-long celebration, officially becoming National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Since then, it has evolved into a nationwide campaign led by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP), which develops annual themes and encourages communities, schools, and employers to put inclusion into action.
Each year, NDEAM reminds the nation that people with disabilities are not defined by their limitations; they are valuable contributors whose work strengthens every industry. The 2025 theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” continues that legacy by highlighting the creativity and determination of workers with disabilities across America.¹
NDEAM in Action Through the Stories of Galt Associates
What NDEAM stands for is what Galt does every day—creating access to good jobs for people who are ready to grow and contribute. These are some of the associates who bring that purpose to life.
Nakitha B.’s Journey of Confidence and Possibility
For Nakitha, a good job means more than a paycheck. It’s about stability, growth, and the chance to keep moving forward. As an Administrative Tech III with the Department of Human Services, Nakitha supports case managers and individuals with disabilities by ensuring records are accurate and accessible. With Galt’s guidance, Nakitha has been encouraged to step outside her comfort zone while receiving the tools to succeed — support that has helped strengthen both professional and entrepreneurial growth.
“Galt has opened doors to opportunities I might not have reached on my own,” Nakitha said. “My current role allows me to contribute to smoother processes that help people receive the care they need, and that gives me a strong sense of pride and purpose.”
Cassandra F.’s Story of Learning and Giving Forward
As a Procurement Contract Assistant I, Cassandra has discovered how learning new systems and supporting a team can create real value for others.
“Having access to a good job offers me the opportunity for a stable income and to learn new skills that allow me to work toward real career goals,” Cassandra said. “Working with Galt has helped me help others in big ways, both financially and personally.”
Cassandra’s proudest moment came when all records were scanned and digitized to create an e-filing process that made information easier to find and improved workflow across the department. That initiative captures what NDEAM celebrates: using talent and curiosity to make workplaces stronger for everyone.
Stella S.’s Story of Faith and Guidance
For Stella, Galt has been more than a staffing partner; it has been a steady source of care and support. Working as an Administrative Assistant, Stella values how Galt matches associates with “great caring” employers who understand disabilities and health challenges.
“They understand my disabilities and health problems,” Stella shared. “I just call Galt, and William and the team guide me through everything. Knowing Galt is there, thank God!”
Stella’s gratitude and resilience reflect what NDEAM celebrates: meaningful employment that values people for who they are and the dedication they bring.
Sandra C.’s Story of Initiative and Quiet Impact
Sandra has built a reputation for problem-solving and initiative as an Office Specialist II. Through various assignments with Galt, Sandra has grown skills and taken on new responsibilities, always finding ways to make work count.
While working at the Oregon Department of Justice, Sandra noticed inefficiencies in the filing system. Instead of waiting for the client to direct her to make changes, the challenge was taken on personally by Sandra, reorganizing the entire system one stack at a time.
“Galt has given me the opportunity to learn and grow with various opportunities within the state,” Sandra said. “I take each role seriously and do the best job possible.”
Sandra’s initiative didn’t just improve a process; it made the department stronger and more efficient for everyone who depends on it.
Christopher H.’s Story of Pride and Purposeful Work
Christopher’s story is one of consistency and quiet dedication. As an Administrative Assistant III supporting the Department of Human Services, Christopher helps organize files and reduce case backlogs, essential work that keeps systems running smoothly for people who rely on them.
“Galt has done an amazing job matching me with roles that utilize my strengths and abilities while helping me prepare for challenges,” Christopher said.
That mix of preparation, trust, and purpose is what keeps Christopher proud of the work done and the impact it has.
The Impact Behind Every Story
Each of these stories reminds us that inclusion is more than a concept; it’s a chain reaction.
When people are trusted, supported, and given the chance to grow, they don’t just change their own lives. They strengthen their teams, lift others, and bring meaning to the work they do every day.
Nakitha’s confidence shows what happens when someone is encouraged to reach higher. Cassandra’s persistence proves that learning is an act of service. Stella’s faith brings heart to her work. Sandra’s initiative reminds us that quiet effort can create lasting change. And Christopher’s pride captures what it feels like to know your work matters.
That sense of purpose is what continues to drive Galt’s mission. As Lisa Doyle, CEO of GALT, put it,
“NDEAM may last only a month, but advancing inclusion is the mission we live every day, all year.”
